Canadian rock band Danko Jones is gearing up for the release of their latest album Rock and Roll is Black and Blue. The album will hit music store shelves across Canada on September 18, 2012.

Rock and Roll is Black and Blue is said to be one of the most emotional and the most epic Danko Jones album to date, with 13 tracks that are bolder, brasher and brawnier than anything they’ve attempted before. The album was produced by longtime partner Matt DeMatteo, and mixed by Mike Fraser, known for his work with AC/DC, Aerosmith, Franz Ferdinand and Elvis Costello, to name a few.

Danko Jones’ latest album is also the first one recorded with “new” drummer Atom Willard. Willard is the sixth person in Danko Jones’ history to hold the title of drummer, however he’s the first to stand on equal creative ground with Danko and bassist John “JC” Calabrese. Willard’s resume speaks for itself – he was the driving percussive force behind Danko’s all-time favourite San Diegan garage-punk armada Rocket From the Crypt, and has also kept time for the multi-platinum likes of The OffspringSocial Distortion and Angels & Airwaves.

L to R: John ‘JC’ Calabrese (bass guitar), Danko Jones (vocals/guitar) and Atom Willard (drums).

The first single off the new album, Just A Beautiful Day, will hit radio airwaves all over the world in the coming days. Rock and Roll is Black and Blue follows the June release of Bring On The Mountain, a two disc DVD featuring a 90-minute documentary, a short film, exclusive live clips from around the world and all the music videos the band has ever done.

For those unfamiliar with Danko Jones’ sound, it’s reminiscent of Thin Lizzy, Kiss and UFO. Over the course of six-full-length albums, these guys have forged a singular sound that draws equally from the blues, ’60s garage, ’70s hard rock, ’80s hardcore, punky power-pop, Scandinavian metal, and classic stand-up comedy records without ever being fully defined by any of those sources. Incorporating a bit of each of these types of music from over the years has helped them create their own unique sound – the end result is a discography full of energy and fire that just oozes out of each song.

Danko Jones will be spending most of October and November touring Europe. Tour dates in Canada, US and Australia are said to be announced soon, with more European dates and a busy festival summer in 2013 also on the horizon.
