For those who don’t know, Free Comic Book Day happens the first Saturday in May every year right across North America and around the world. It’s when participating comic book shops give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone and everyone who comes into their stores that day.

This year marked Silver Snail’s last Free Comic Book Day at their Queen St. location, as they’ll be closing the doors and moving to their new home by July 1st. After 36 years as part of Queen West and months of searching out the perfect spot, Silver Snail’s owner, George Zotti, finally found a place to move the popular comic book shop to – steps away from Yonge and Dundas Square at 329 Yonge Street.

As we have done for several years, my hubby and I went down with our two boys to pick up some free comics and to enjoy the last few moments we’ll have at the original location of the Snail. And of course, we all dressed for the occassion – my 5-year-old was Captain America while my 3-year-old was Thor, and my husband was Tony Stark (Iron Man). Me? Well, I was dressed in black and supposedly I was Black Widow.

The line-ups were insane, with geeks and comic book junkies eagerly waiting for their turn to pick up their comics. Parents and their kids also waited in line for their chance to go in and scoop out the loot. Needless to say, we got some good stuff and had an amazing day with our new finds and hanging out with the Storm Troopers who were patrolling Queen Street West.
